By the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. (CC 1285) In Baptism, we die to sin, we are born into new life, and we are given a call and challenge to proclaim the Gospel with the life that lies before us.The sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. Confirmation exists to equip us with the graces and gifts of the Holy Spirit we will need on the journey of proclaiming the Gospel with our lives. You will have everything you need to proclaim the Gospel and bring His unconditional love to the world with your talents and gifts. Confirmation equips you to live a life worthy of the call. Let this sacrament effect you, change you, and open you up to something bigger than yourself.
Confirmation Preparations
Confirmation is a two-year process, usually beginning the freshman year of high school. You must be a member of Saints John and Paul Parish to participate in our sacrament preparation or by special permission from your home parish and ours.
The first year, teens and their families will attend and participate in the monthly Parish Faith Formation L!VE! gatherings. These are held the first Wednesday and following Sunday evenings of the month (there are some exceptions, check the calendar for exact dates). The teens will also attend and work at least one Friday Lenten Fish Fry and work independently on a few items. An informational meeting is usually held in the spring the year before they begin their formal preparation.
The second year (usually the sophomore year) adds additional steps to their formation to help the teen grow in faith and understanding of this sacrament. In addition to continued attendance and participation in the Parish Faith Formation L!VE! gatherings, the teens will also complete a few tasks, communicate regularly with their sponsors and participate in six small group, mentor-based sessions. While all teens will cover the same topics, the mentors are able to individualize the program to each group. The mentors strive to lead the teens deeper into their faith and invite them to encounter Jesus Christ in a real and authentic way as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
